Hi,

I need some assistance in the wiring for a new extractor pull switch

Current wiring:

One black goes to L1, the other is cut and not used.
Both brown to common
Both grey into one connector

I want to fit a new pull switch with neon, but not sure how to wire:

Appreciate any assistance.

Many thanks, Mark

You can connect the wires the same as the old switch using Lin and Lout on the new.
Can't tell which way round from here. You will need to determine which is Line(live) and which is switched live.

You will not be able to have the neon working unless you can connect the unused black to Neutral at its other end.

So Line Live is the cable with the unused black - right cable in the pic

The switched the cable with the used black - left cable in the pic

Looking at the wires in the loft, the Line live - Brown obviously live and grey neutral

If my understanding is correct do I:

Connect the two brown to Live in
The current black to Live out
Grey to Neutral in

and

connect the cut black to neutral (same as the grey) in the loft.
and then, the other end on the switch, black to Neutral out

So the current unused black would go to the Neutral out...?

Starting to wonder why i need that unused black, if the grey is neutral already.

Both brown to live in
Line live neutral (grey) to Neutral in
Switched Neutral (grey) to Neutral out
Switched black to live out

Starting to question my own logic!

I'm sorry, I was confused between the connector block and the cut black.

I didn't realise that you had Br/Bl/Gy in both cables.

2 Browns - Lin
1 Black - Lout
NB - 2 Greys - Nin because the fan will need neutral when the switch is off

They aren't there in the 1st photo.

And they aren't there in the 3rd one.

So where are they, and, more importantly, where else aren't they?

It's the two Greys in the connector block.
I was thinking that was the Black and the Greys had been cut right back.

It was either missed or, - but it has been edited.

There are no connector blocks in photo #3.

And even if someone had sleeved them black or grey (why???), that wouldn't explain the existence of either a brown/grey or brown/black cable.

Then there are the two old-colour cables.

They aren't there, EFLI, so where else aren't they?

[It is not, of course, neutral cores I'm talking about].

Photo #3 is a JB in the loft which contains the supply and further cables.

A Brown/Black/Grey cable1 has Brown connected to Line and Grey to Neutral with Black cut.

This cable1 goes to the Switch in photo #1 where it is connected to another B/B/G cable2 which (presumably/obviously) goes to the fan and perhaps light although that may be separate.

The 2 Greys are in the connector block (I first thought this was the spare black causing my confusion).
The 2 Browns are in switch Com
The 1 Black from cable2 in L1 is switched live

Spot on.

So to confirm:

2 Browns - Lin
1 Black - Lout
2 Greys - Nin
Nothing on Nout
leave the cut black as is, unused.

Precisely.

Notice anything missing?
