It is possible this light was the first one on the system, and so the live fed the other lights, but wasn't wired down to the switch and back properly. But if the connector block was acting like a ceiling rose, then there'd be a red feed in, a red feed down to the light switch, and a red feed on to the next light, so either there's a wire missing, or this is an adaption from the original ceiling rose, and just wired wrongly. Ericmarks pictures good, in that it shows the neutral coming back from the light switch, and then feeding the live side, but again, there's no live and neutral going to the next light.
But Ericmarks picture should give Mastin an idea to work from, and if he has a simple mains neon screwdriver, he might be to check which is the permanent red live coming in, then link in the second red live to it, and determine which s the live return from the switch, then get back to us.
It's possible that there is a ceiling rose above the connector block, that one of the live wires has not been fitted back in properly, one of the live wires has broken inside its sleeving, or that the return live (black coloured wire from the switch) has been wired in to the neutral, so that there's two lives, and no neutral - which could explain why all the lights blew.
