wiring new ceiling light help!

I am trying to put up a ceiling light and have had to completely remove the ceiling pendant. I now have 2 red wires and 2 black wires coming from the ceiling and on the ceiling light I am trying to put up, I have 1 brown connection and 1 blue connection. Can somebody please advise what I connect to what. thanks

Did you label what went where on the old fitting? If not, and there are no other lights on the same switch, you will need a multimeter. Or else pay an electrician to sort it.

Can you tell which reds/blacks are paired in the same cables?

Hi Thanks for your response- my brother came round and put it up in the end. Apparenty the red wires were link wires? It makes no sense to me!

If I had a pound for every time i'd drawn a diagram to explain ceiling roses and in particular stair lights, then I'd have enough by now for a new multimeter
