I am replacing an old ceiling spotlight on the landing with a ceiling rose. There are 4 red wires and 4 black wires coming from the ceiling. They are not taped together. I have no idea how to attach the new ceiling rose to these wires, can someone please help. Thanks

You first need to identify which of the "two core cables" (red and black) goes to the switch - if you can do this by tacing it out in the loft, do that......otherwise you will need to use a multimeter or similar to test between red and black while someone switches the switch.....with the power OFF.

Thanks for replying. No only 1 light operates, but has 2 switches one upstairs and one downstairs. All the red cables were wired into 1 connector, but I am not sure about the black wires as they came loose when I took down the old spotlight- but it looks like 3 of the 4 black wires were wired into 1 connector and the other black wire a separate connector

OK, the reds stay in the connector on their own.
The earths all go to earth.
The three blacks that where together go to neutral.
The black that was on it's own is returning from the switch, should have a bit of red sleeve or red tape on it, and connects to the lights live terminal.

So in the ceiling rose do I just put them into the connectors as they are and not separate them? thanks
Yes, put all reds in the center loop terminal.
put all neutral blacks into the neutral terminal with the blue flex
put the switched live black into the live terminal with brown flex.
As you have four cables, rather than three, you will need to share terminals in the rose for the loop/neutral.
