I am trying to connect my daughter's oven. I can see the correct colour wiring in the wall socket but I cannot see any red, black or green wires at the back of her oven. All that is there is a black plastic box with 3 screws, 2 next to each other and 1 further up. I am not sure which colour should fit under which screw? I fitted my own oven, that was easy!

If you can say the make and model of the oven, someone may recognise it. Was it bought new, and did it come with instructions?

If you can lay your hands on a digital camera and post a pic (especially of the connections it has, and also the front of the oven) someone may recognise it.

Are the screws you mention inside the black box, or could they be holding a cover down?

The conductors of the oven supply cable are connected to those 3 screws - they in turn are connected to the internal wiring of the oven - they must be labelled - get a torch and look closely - also re-check the instructions!

Thank you both for replying. My soppy daughter has some how lost the manual but I will take my camera round there after work today. I believe that it is a New World cooker and it is brand new. I will also take my torch, and if those connection points are labelled in some way then I will definitely need a magnifying glass as well!!

I think the regulations state that the terminals must be identifiable. They are most probably moulded on & that is why they are difficult to see.

There is a sticker near to the terminal block sometimes, or occasionally on the top of the oven housing if it is a slot in type.
