Help with rafter cut @ rsj ridge

But what if he doesn't want to bite the bullet, and prefers to keep the steel where it is?

Not our problem Tony. Have told OP that it can not be done. Two hours work for two men to drop steel. That is a lot better than trying to take a flying f*ck at a rolling doughnut.

Lot of fuss over nothing. Just get hold of some rafter hangers and detail as tony said. From the sketch the roof is tiny, the ridge beam is tiny and the loads are next to nothing. Put 100mm insulation between the rafters and 40mm below instead of the warm roof design.

Lot of fuss over nothing. .

Will be a lot of fuss when the OP tries to bed down a universal 120 degree angle tile low enough to get a water seal and 150mm saddle flashing below cill level.
Have tried Simpsons LSU26Z and the new LRU rafter brackets, Threw them in the skip.Useless.

Perhaps he could just miss out the ridge tile next to the cill and form a simple lead cover over the ridge; might not look too good.

thanks for the detailed reply:

1. Vaulted roof should always be birds beaked over the ridge beam

Agreed

2. Bite the bullet drop the steel and alter pitch.

Agreed

3. Insulation. 60mm celotex above joists does not comply with L1B 2010.
Vapour permeable roofing felt, 100mm celotex GA4000 between the joists and 50mm PL4000 under joists. Fix the PL4000 with Insofast fixings
Regards oldun,

I was 60 above and 60 between, but ive decided as the rsj needs moving, we'll go for 150mm rafters with insulation in between and below.

Mu usnderstanding is that is breathable membrane is used, it shouldn't be tight, and therefore the insulation (between) cannot be level with the rafters but 20mm below to allow the membrane to "hang" as watwer vapour is expected to pass, condensate on the back of the tiles and run down to the gutter?
