Help with water softener outlet

Hi,

Hopefully a fairly straightforward question. I'd really appreciate some advice on the best way to connect the waste outlet from my water softener (as pictured) to the pvc pipe my kitchen fitter installed for me. I want to make the connected demountable if I ever need to change my softener and also to make it easy to pull out. Ideally there would be a way to connect the two using a rubber hose that I could connect and disconnect when I need to pull the softener out. Also the elbow in the waste pipe (picture 2) is not attached yet so it can be replaced.

What softener make and model?
What do the install instructions say about that pipe/elbow?
What is the pipe for?
What size is the pipe (diameter)?

That elbow looks like it might be a brine tank overflow to me, rather than the waste brine pipe used during regeneration?
(My softener has one that feeds out the external wall to be seen when it overflows onto the path... That happened due to a fault with mine! )

You may need to be able to see it leaking so may want a tundish to see a fault?

Then we have the waste: where does that pipe go? Into the drains? Is there a U-bend on it or is it open to the drain and a potential for smell? It looks solvent weld 32mm but it might be 40mm with nothing to give a scale?

Can you do solvent weld? Do you have any pipe, or do you need compression (or pushfit) and adapters?

Thank you for the detailed reply, but I just need to know how to join the two connections together. It is the brine waste outlet and there is no recommendation to fit a tundish from the manufacturer. If it overflows, then the overflow outlet will dump the water and as long as there's no leak, overflow will be picked up sooner or later as it all feeds into the same waste connection. Also I can find the size out shortly but for now I'm only looking for advice or ideas on which type of fittings I can use to join the two connections together
