Fitting some metal herringbone struts to first floor joists on my extension.

I have got my head round how they fix with twist nails to the top and bottom of each joist. The straps are about 1mm thick and the head of the nail another 1mm.

When fitting the flooring this will create 'high spots'.

What is the solution?

Andy.

Unless you plan on hitting these in with a toffee hammer, then you tend to find that the nails get knocked down pretty well and the strap sinks into the timber slightly

Get a dreadnought file or rasp, and give a couple of strokes over the area to be fixed to.
