Can't see it no chance of being able to quote it (cue crystal ball pic?), but did you not agree a price beforehand or hourly rate?

At london rates the price seems ok. Probably too expensive in the north east but it's impossible to say without seeing the job.

If he has done the job properly, seemingly simple things like
moving double one double socket half meter to the right
is labour intensive as teh cables have to be removed from the existing position and new chses done up or down to the new position. Cable then needs extending, or re-run from the previos socket in the ring.

Some pictures would be nice (we like pictures)

Yeah I was going to say 'move one socket a meter to the left' could be done in one of a few ways, so more costly than others....

But ultimatly, assuming you didnt get a fixed price qoute, while you can try negiating a discount, ultimatly if the work has been done, you now need to pay them!

And provided all materials myself.
Well that's one good way to make sure you get charged more for labour.

It ought to be quite simple for people to grasp.

Your electrician has worked out that he needs to earn X from a job like that.

If X = Y (markup on materials + Z (labour), what do you think he will do if you deny him Y?

Will he

a) Put up with earning less, and just tell the family that they won't be eating much next week?

or

b) Simply increase Z to compensate?
