I am struggling to find a replacement bottom hinge for a side hung aluminium window. The windows are quite old (80's probably) but in excellent condition apart from this one hinge. The hinge is made by Shaw and has 305S imprinted on it which refers to the length, 305mm. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I have taken a photo of a good hinge on another window and uploaded it. //media.diynot.com/226000_225973_88385_59854125_thumb.jpg

thanks, I've already bought a pair of new 12" UPVC friction hinges, they are the correct stack height (13mm). I was going to fit these then thought I would check on this forum first, just in case anybody knew where I could get one of the original Shaw hinges (new or second hand) then I would only need to replace the bottom hinge, which would be easier as it is a first floor bedroom window.

I think I'll end up having to fit the newer type hinges, is it definitely ok to fit these to aluminium windows? they'll obviously have to be riveted rather than screwed to the frame

Well I have certainly done it in both my daughters houses where they had old alli windows, without any problems. Yes you will need a pop riveter and a second pair of hands will come in useful, once you have done one or two it is easy, just a case of getting the confidence and the positioning right.
