Not sure if this is the right forum for this one - perhaps someone can advise !

One of my bedroom windows is in a 18 inch square sided recess - the house wall are 30 inches plus thick.

We've tried a curtain pole on the room wall but we never really liked it and have been keeping our eyes open for an alternative. While in Germany this year, an old hotel had solved the similar problem with curtains that were hung on rails hinged on either side of the window. I've tried to find these with google but no success - does anyone know a source ?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply - I've seen those on the net and I might go back and look at those again, but what this hotel had was a pair of ~8mm dia. stainless steel rods each a bit over half the window in width. Each rod carried a curtain and was mounted on a simple hinge at the side of the top of the window such that the curtains could be rotated to be over the the window or hinged back against the recess.

Does that description make sense ? How difficult it is to describe something in words !

Cheers

It is sometimes possible to get hinged curtain poles made to hang over doors to keep out the cold. It is fixed to the wall at the hinge side, then to the door, so it opens with the door when you open the door. The curtain can be slid along the pole to gather at the wall and away from the door during the day or in warm weather.

I have not seen them for some years.

Another forum set me on the right track. They are called Drapery Arms or Dormer Rods. The door curtain rails are Portieres. There are several sources in the UK that I found through Mr Google.

Thanks for any help.
