nice one ..,.,,.,.,, turned off water and all turned off !!!

just switched water back on and boiler has fired up again....all the time the CH light was always on but boiler NOT fired up whilst the water light was off ??

Mid position 3 port valve, synchronous motor
Not part of the power circuit to the boiler.

If i understand the op correctly, the boiler is dropping dead. No power, nothing. 240v power issue (loose wire socket) or PCB problem is most likely i think?

yes all very good but you havent done what I asked switch the CH to off you need to know what that wire in 2 does

Apologies if caused any confusion the boiler is a Glowworm Energy 18r.. ( Brit Gas took an old Ariston out when fitting glowworm and Hive system )
did another reset on the receiver this morning and got it to communicate with the boiler..
all lights green ..
finally got to do ianmcd request and switched ch off,,,,, boiler continued to work .....tap & flashing radiator symbols on
switched CH back on ......boiler continued to work tap & flashing radiator symbols on
switched hot water off (left CH on green on receiver )...... boiler shut down ..... status and CH green light both still on...
...................
left it a few minutes...... then switched water on so all lights green again and boiler & display started working...
....................

if of any use regarding old wiring on the backplate of the receiver we had used to have a hard wired thermostat in the hall which was disconnected when we had the hive wireless thermostat,,
.................

now done exactly the same set of procedures with the thermostat operating the receiver/lights ... everything happened the same ..
can hear the CH relay in the receiver click but nothing happens on boiler...
can hear the hot water relay in the receiver and boiler fires up...

then switched water on so all lights green again and boiler & display started working..
That is your problem, your boiler needs a permanent live, the display should never go off unless you cut the power, your boiler is operating via a switched live, you need to get a permanent live into the correct terminal on the boiler, get it done sooner rather than later or the boilers PCB will fail
