We appear to be having Hive issues out of nowhere, I wondered if anyone is knowlegable about this?

We self installed Hive a couple months back, it was easy enough in terms of fitting the receiver, our system is gravity fed with a condensing boiler, following the instructions without issue. We left our old thermostat on the wall as we heard conflicting views regarding whether it was still needed or not. Ever since this has worked fine, normally our system allows for hot water on its own or heating which will heat the hot water automatically (both heating and hot water lights are active on receiver). As of today we not cannot have the hot water on without the heating also coming on, it does not show as lit up on the receiver, we just notice all the radiators heating up. No changes have been made to the system since yesterday, the only recent change at all was getting a smart meter installed last month, any ideas what we can do?

Post a few photos of the controls you have , motorised valves, pump and the wiring if you can.

Well that bit is easy. It's not most definitely not needed. If it were, in the case of new installations, the Nest installation manual would tell you to install one!

In fact it should taken out of the heating control circuit, otherwise it could end up competing with the Nest for control of your heating. [Think one TV with separate his and hers remote controls ;)] It should be taken out properly though, it cannot just be disconnected, otherwise the heating circuit will be left 'open circuit'

Having said that, having two room thermostats won't cause the heating to come on with the hot water, so back to picasso's questions...

Unlikely to be the Hive from what you've described although it doesn't sound brilliantly installed if old room stat still fitted.

We will be getting the thermostat removed correctly eventually, we have not long moved into our new place and had a list of unexpected issues to fix so this is on the list.

sounds like your mid position valve is passing. re room thermostat you can leave it where it is turned up to max....its just a switch. better to link it to be permanently calling for heat if its just left to cover a space but even better to disconnect the wires to it at the junction box and put a blanking plate where it was. Your house though, you can do what you like.
