Hi,

I've been an avid reader of the diynot forums for some time and has proven to be a great source of information. I'm in now need of assistance, I'm hoping someone can help - I'm sure you can.

I have purchased hive active heating (single channel) and am looking to replace an aging Landon & Gyr programmable timer. There is no thermostat to my knowledge (as I only purchased the house recently).

I have attached the diagram on the back of the existing timer and also a picture of the current wiring of the timer (cable on the right is from the mains feed, the other two trace back to the combi boiler - Ferrolli Optimax 38c)

I have also attached the hive wiring diagram for reference.

Is it as simple as just slotting on the hive and not touching the wires?

Or do I need to move some wires?

Thanks in advance to anyone who could help..

1. Turn power off
2. Remove old programmer
3. Move the brown wire from 2 to 1
4. Move the blue wire from 4 to 3
5. Install the Hive
6. Turn power on

There is no need to touch the wires connected to L and N

Thank you. Very much appreciated. Youve helped me no end... I'll give it a go later!!

I've done as instructed. The heating turns on and off fine via the button on the hive itself and the thermostat (after a small delay of 30 seconds)

The only thing that's puzzling me is that the boilers pump stays on and is making a whirring noise when hive has it set to off (the heating isn't on).. is this normal?

Is this a new thing? i.e it didn't happen with the old programmer.

Which boiler do you have (make and exact model)?

Yes it's new since the hive install. It seems there is a delay in the boiler powering down when the hive turns off. There is no flame icon, just the pump. I think it's fine. So thanks for Ur help.

I see you have an Optimax combi boiler (should have read your first post). This boiler has pump overrun; i.e. it continues to work for a few minutes after the boiler has turned off. It does this to cool the boiler down and prevent heat-related stress in the heat exchanger.
