honeywell galaxy 2-20 flashing stars

I am not sure this is any help but I had a similar problem.

I removed the main fuse to the power and disconnect battery backup. I then pulled the cable to the back of the keypad panel. Then fired it all back up and it worked a treat.

It was some time ago so its possible I missed a step. I caused the issue by removing the wrong fuse thinking it had blown.

Strange, if you remove and re-add AUX power to the keypad, the keypad may show no data for a few seconds, but it should re-sync when display data is resent to it. If you changed the keypad address between the power off, then it would not reconnect.

If you remove panel power and re-apply it, then the panel will reboot and re-enumerate all the devices on the bus.

Perhaps your wiring into the back of the keypad is/was suspect.
