Honeywell Room Thermostat... Which One????!!!

Please help me!!!
Im redecorating my front room which has a Honeywell thermostat (kinda gold, twist dial, approx 3" square and 2" deep, 4 wires) and covered in paint from previous occupant. I'd like to replace it but cant find a number to which its been superceeded???? The T6360 looks similar but theres a,b,c???? which model do I want or need??? I've found previous posts that mention Mickey Mouse wiring problems?!!! How can something so small be so complicated!!!!

So any help greatly received!!!

Turn the power off (it will have mains voltage inside) and have a look inside, see how many wires it has, what colours they are, and what terminals they're attached to. That's an important start.

Measure the size of the backplate, which is probably plastic; this might help you find a replacement that fits the old gap in the wallpaper.
