My washing machine is making a terrible noise on the spins (driving me and the person in the flat below mad). It is a self levelling machine, and there is no vibration, even when it's making the terrible noise. I want to check the belt has not slipped and want to remove the (top?) to view it. Does anybody know how to get into it to view the belt/drum? The top looks like its rivetted on at the back, so do I have to remove the back cover?

The drum seems to move ok (a little movement forward and backward but not excessive) and makes no noise and no resistance when turning it, so I don't think it's the bearings or concrete weight. It is only approx 18mth/2 yrs old and when I first got it the belt had slipped and the engineer just opened it up and moved the belt, so I have a feeling it is probably that again (I hope).

no idea, but see here look at noisey spin

Thanks Breezer but don't think the items there cover it, I've added a couple of more details to my post.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I have run the machine through on hot wash empty without anything in it and it acted normally, have just run through again with a half load and on slower spin it was ok, but on final spin on the quick wash it was back to banging and very noise again....... any ideas anyone?

Hi
could be faulty damper or bearings will be noisey due to extra force at extra speed can you lift drum up & down if it is loose it is bearings also if you turn drum slowly & you hear a grinding noise bearing on way out.

Thanks Hazza, the drum doesn't go up and down, moves backward and forward a little, but I can turn it round easily with no noises.

I think it may be the belt has moved, and know how to correct that if I could only figure out how to get into the machine, which is doing my head in.

sorry mate cant help you there dont know model if all else fails big hammer & screwdriver may not work but you will feel better.
