Hello i am looking for advice on my washing machine, every time i plug it in,it trips my ring circuit,i have checked the plug for a bad earth ect but no luck would appreciate any help, thank you.
This Machine is about 6 years old never had any problems before.
On my circuit box its trips the ring circuit. Thank you for your reply.
Nothing else trips the circuit or ring circuit !!
Steve's question is important and you have not answered it.
The thing that trips might be marked "B32" or "30A" or it might be marked "30mA" or it might be marked "0.03A" or it might be marked "80A" or it might be marked "100A" or it might have a button marked "T" or "Test"
The answer to you question is a 32a type B then its just says 240/415 v i hope this is more precise ,thank you yet again. Also when the small switch trips thats the 32a type B. The main Test switches off so you have to reset it,thank you for your help i appreciate it.
Yes the small one marked b32 tripped the first time i plugged the washing machine in,i then checked the normal plug on the washing machine and replaced the plug to make sure it was not a bad earth.
Now when i try to plug the machine in again it is only the main switch with the test button that trips,i can plug anything else into the same socket as the washing machine like a kettle ect and it is fine, only when i go to plug in the washing machine that the main switch with the test button trips.Thank you again for your reply.
then, unless you have made a mistake in wiring the plug, you have a major fault. It sounds worse than the usual slight earth leakage caused by damp in an electrical part or a worn motor.
Examine the mains flex of the washer for damage, for example if a heavy appliance has been put down on it, or it has been gnawed by rodents or a puppy. If the flex is OK, there may be a loose electrical part or wire inside the machine, or a frayed or chafed wire. perhaps caused by movement or shaking during spinning. Have another look inside the plug for correct connection and no stray strands of wire.
From what you say, it trips the RCD as soon as you plug it in, before it has started to fill with water or run the motor, so it is probably not the heating element at fault. Unplug it and see if you can open the top or back. Examine carefully the wires from the connection where they enter the machine, up to the on/off switch or controls. Also look for signs of water leakage inside the machine.
Unless the fault is easy to find and simple to repair, consider how much it would be worth spending on having it repaired, compared to the cost of a new one
