hot and cold fill washer

can a hot and cold fill washer be used with just a cold feed pipe, and a blanking cap put on the hot valve connection? my mother has just bought a washer dryer which even though new is hot and cold fill, however the house does not have a hot feed pipe as it was an extension and the plumber only put in the cold feed!!!

Better to tee both H & C feeds to the machine from the same supply, using something like

which is made for the job.
