hot & COLD FEED AROUND WRONG WAY???????????

hi, ive just visted a custmer with a combi boiler that go a problem, they had a bodge it and scarper man come in and fit a new bathroom, now they are getting big problems with hot water feeding their water softner, but cold water coming out of cold tap in kitchen (this he hadent touched)and hot out of the hot. is this justa case of swaping over the feeds? OR HAS HE GOT SOMETHING ELSE WRONG? thanks[/list]

Sounds OK to me! What's the problem?
:lol: Yeah But----hot to the softener :?: The cold to sink is from the main, not thru the softener. Then the main feeds the softener, so he`s done summat wrong :oops:

Or the poster's got a bit muddled :roll: . If the problem was as described it would be simple enough to trace the problem.
 
He probably thought the water softener took hot water !! Trace is back to see where it's connected and feel the pipe.
 
Sounds like he has fitted an internally-mixing bath tap. If the hot water pressure (from the combi) exceeds the cold water pressure (from the softener) there is a chance of reverse-flow.
The softener circuit may have a pressure-reducing valve fitted.
Some mixers have two waterways all the way to the tap outlet to prevent cross-flow between unequal pressures.
