hot water cylinder

I've just replaced a bath but find the hot water is not coming throuh. There is cold water but since I've simply replaced two pipes with two others i would have thought there should be either hot water or no water!I wonder if the gate valve is stuck (sorry for being so technical)but should it make a differece even if it is?

if you got no hot water anywhere then the gatevalve could be busted does it go around and around without stopping
