The hot water in the bathroom, ensuite and kitchen runs very slow. There is no problem in the cloakroom. In fact, if the hot water tap in the bathroom is running, you cannot run hot water anywhere else (apart from the cloakroom) as nothing comes out of the tap. Is this an airlock?

Thanks

(Just moved house so this could be normal..House 10 years old

and, if you have a hot cylinder and a cold tank, where are they? And what is their height relative to the various taps?

boiler is a Ideal classic (not a condensing boiler) and it does the hot water and the heating. There is a hot water tank in the airing cupboard and a tank in the loft. The bathrooms are upstairs. The cloakroom and the kitchen are downstairs.

Well it does sound like an air lock but there could still be other reasons..

You can try to backfill via a mixer tap by blocking the outlet spout and open hot tap ,, then open cold so it goes via the spout up the hot and should blow air lock out !!

Kitchen is the best place to do this as the cold is mains pressure..

Also when you do this keep all other taps closed at 1st and dont backfill for too long or the tank will over fill in the loft .

You can also open the effected taps to see if the air lock comes out of them taps .

was the house unoccupied for a while with the water turned off? If not, why would there be an airlock? How long since you moved in?

Have a look at the tank in the loft for any signs of low water level, partly-closed service valve, detritus in the bottom of the tank. (I hope it has a tight-fitting lid?)
