I am renting a flat - and want to get the best out of my boiler.

My system is a potterton promax sl boiler, water tank, with immersion (always off), gas central heating, all controlled by Draton LifeStyle LP241 programmer.

When should I have the hot water coming on and off? - is an hour in the morning and hour in evening best or have on all day?

I dont seem to get hot water with the cental heating off? Does this sound logical?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a well insulated cylinder, with boilerstat and cylinderstat set correctly, it will not make a huge difference how long you got the DHW on for. Cylinder stat/boilerstat mismatched will cost you more.
I doubt if it is worth the effort to try and optimise it without the required knowledge and tools; your system is never going to be very economical.
