Hotpoint 6525 double oven heating element problem

I have replaced the heating element in the fan oven following sparking and subsequent obvious failure of the element. However, the main oven will not now switch on (top oven still works OK). I am wondering if there is an internal fuse??. ( I have done simple continuity check on new element).
Any thoughts on how to solve this much appreciated!

if the thermostat light does not come on you need a new one.

This may be a bit obvious but I have seen this a few times after element changes or power failure.

Is there a timer fitted and is it on manual or auto (if on auto the main oven will not work except on timer)
