call a hotpoint engineer, it sounds like a part you should not replace needs replacing
What is the model number? Some versions of the Aquarius had a microswitch in the door lock mechanism. The wires to this switch tend to burn out. You can often see if this has happened by taking the mains plug out, removing the lid and shining a torch down to the doorswitch.

yes but you should replace whole door interlock, and m switch, and cables, which is why i suggested call a hp engineer
