It's just a query for those in the know. I have a discount available from hotpoint which lets me have a new 8 kg aqualtis or an ultima 965 machine for 270 quids. I am wondering if I should go for the 965 with a bit of a track record or if these new units seem any good.

As far as I'm aware new Hotpoint machines are made by Indesit and contain Indesit electronics.
I wouldn't have them in my house. Sorry

I thought indesit and hotpoint were owned by marconi though I may well be wrong. Bit the bullet today and bought the big 8kg aqualtis thing. It was 499 in currys and I was being offered it on web for 270....seemed almost rude not to.

The Indesit Company, which owns Hoptoint, Creda, Indesit and Ariston, is owned by Vitorrio Merloni. His brother owns the Servis brand name amongst others.[/list]

was it the
Hotpoint AQUALTIS AQXXL129?

No John it was the AQGD169S, it looks like a good machine except that they only make it in grey....I can forgive a cooker and possibly a fridge made of genuine stainless steel but why do they insist on making everything else out out ugly grey plastic and then for some bizzare reason even charging you extra for it....yuck.

I must say that hot point have gone down the drain. I always had hot point gear with no problems but about a year ago i decided to get new machines ( no fault with old ones, just bored of them ) I changed washer and dryer.( kept the dish washer and glad i did ) After about 3 months of no clean or dry clothes because the NEW hotpoint machines broke almost every time i used them !, i decided to put them in a skip and buy a combi dryer / washer . Even worse! This kept playing up to ( the drying bit ) and have also give up on this machine ( i still have it if anyone wants to buy it, washer bit fine, just don't dry ) I was told by the hotpoint engineers , which i now know them all by there first name , that ' hotpoint ' was now owned by ' indesit ' and that nothing works any more! So i went out and brought a cheaper machine made by ' hoover ' And you know what?? Brilliant. Wish i brought one a year ago. Would be an easy grand better off!
