Have been looking at the smart systems from Honeywell and Drayton but have been wondering how accurate the temperature control is. Also how reliable are they.

Anyone with experience of these valves who can offer advice please?

The Honeywell ones are very accurate, as are the Salus ones. Both seem very reliable so far, and Salus have a 5 year warranty. Not had any experience of the Drayton ones.

Most systems have rooms sensors available too as the measurement by the radiator itself is going to be different to a measurement where you happen to be sitting. Systems that have and are connected to use opentherm will achieve better regulation as the output of the system will be matched more closely to the load.

Nice to know that the valves are pretty reliable.

If using a room stat in conjunction to a smart TRV does the stat turn on the heat just for the room or the whole house?

It would normally be linked to the TRVs in the room, so it would just bring that room on

Late mothers house we used Energenie which it claims to have two sensors one for water and one for air, and they were fitted on the return, not a good idea as the radiator gets hot before the TRV gets the heat so there is a tendency to over shoot. However adjusting the lock shield valve and one can stop the over shoot, the computer report shows current and target, and if current over target just close the lock shield a tad, and once set it did work spot on.

This was with a modulating boiler, but the same valves with an oil boiler have not been as good, far better than old mechanical ones, but not had the same success as with the modulating boiler. This has not been helped as Nest has removed support, so all in all the cheap eQ-3 TRV has worked better than the energenie, they even have window open auto shut down.
