How bad is this dry verge install?

I'm pretty sure I've well and truly had my pants down here. I have paid £1800 for this monstrosity.

I wasn't really sure how bad it was until I started doing research into it after he left.

Pic 1 looks like it's lifting tiles as he has screwed directly into the verge and not into the battons (this can clearly be seen in pic 3), which is pulling the tiles up. There is also more of a draught in the loft than there was before .

The tiles have obviously not been cut back either hence why the verge is bowing so much and doesn't fit over nicely.

The gap between the house and the verge looks massive compared to any other house I have seen with this system.

Is there anything else I'm missing?
I have the roofer returning in 2 days.

I've never felt so ripped off in all my life and feel like he has now taken away the water tight integrity from my roof.

Seems a bit of a dogs dinner ; did he not advise taking the tiles back or building out the barge board? Or even replacing the wet verge?

It looks like he's fitted the dry verge units with the tiles still in place. This means that he hasn't extended the tile batten. He's also used regular screws and not stainless.

There's lots wrong with it. Poor quality, not much attention to detail etc. They should be firm and straight with the bottom lip tight up to the fascia or brickwork...

No mate, i paid him to do the job. I would have expected him to know what he was doing as a roofer.

I questioned why it looked so baggy and bowing in places and his response was "that's just the way your tiles are sitting"

I stupidly paid him before I did research into this system. He's coming back Tuesday so hopefully I can keep my cool and he can rectify the issues. If he knows how to!

Thank you for taking the time to give me some advice and posting pictures of what a good dry verge should look like.

He is coming back tuesday. I will definitely mention all you have said.

I just pray he actually knows how to fit this properly and I don't have to pay somebody else to finish it.

Needs a tower scaffold, the tiles stripped back to the 2nd rafter and new battens extending 40mm beyond the barge...obviously the existing wet verge removed and the tiles cut back to suit. Did they do that off a ladder?

Thank you so much for the info. The more I read into this job, the more disheartened I get. This bloke really is an utter cowboy.

Yeah, I believe he did do it all off a ladder. Although I only saw him for a few minutes in the morning and he completed it while I was at work.

The only thing I belive he has done right was knock out the mortar from the wet verge.

Dare I ask, where you found him, though I suspect - I already know?

So, £1800, for less than a days work, minus a couple of hundred for materials.

You are right to be upset!

I found him on check a trade, he had a 9.98 rating. What could possibly go wrong

I'm crying inside at the thought I might have to pay to have it done properly a second time from someone else.

I'm sorry OP, I'd hate to be in this position. It's why I've not put dry verge on my existing wet verge that cracked when moving tiles to add eaves protectors.

You now are in the position where you know more than the cowboy installing it.

Maybe contact citizens advice bureau for some free legal advice.
