How can I add a drawer to a 'non drawer' base unit

We recently bought new kitchen units, which we had fitted but unfortunately none came with drawers. (obviously, we never thought about it at the time and just ordered plain base units)

We'll manage to store most things without any problems, but really it would be nice to have at least one drawer, even if it was only for the cutlery.

What options are there to perhaps add a drawer, fitted to the underside of the worktop (perhaps) or is there a better idea.

My suggestion to just leave the knives and forks in the dishwasher wasn't accepted .. anyway, we have more than 3 of each :)

thanks !

You can buy drawers, metal are best, with runners - ebay, but you would need to find a source for the drawer fronts to match you existing. Four standard ones will fill a unit with drawers. We have eight (2x 4 sets).

Can you get new doors and drawer fronts to match?
Sadly not .. they were on an 'end of line' sale

I was thinking like a drawer attached to the underside of the worktop, which when closed would lie behind the normal door, just not sure if this type of thing is available

we have drawers behind a normal full height base unit door, part of our Wickes kitchen setup.
So you open the door and then see the drawers - I deep one for Veg, and 2 smaller ones , not as small as cutlery draws
here is just an example of it -

so you can see its possible - just a case of getting the drawers themselves

Wire baskets , which you could add a cutlery insert to

not sure if IKEA sell internal drawers , maybe worth looking in places like B&Q, Wickes, homebase etc as they sell a lot of the kit flat packed on its own.
