The top tray in our Bosch dishwasher has rust.
They cost £120 JUST for the tray!

Is there anyway I can get rid of the rust + paint over or seal with something?
If painting over... then would need to stand up to zillions of washes after.

Thanks.

Rub down with emery/wire wool, (proper stuff, not a brillo pad type of thing), dry thoroughly in a warm oven and then use enamel spray paint.
Maybe try to bake the enamel on to it by placing back into a hot oven?

Enamel spray paint - like car paint?

Oven - can't do. The tray is too big.

Wire wool advice sounds great.

I'll wait for a reply about what type of enamel and will action
THANKS

There's other places as well.
The whole tray is in sturdy condition.
Hoping I can repair.

The original 'wrapping' on the metal wire is a soft plastic.

Thanks.

When the lockdown is over, go to your local re-cycling place and ask the guys if you can look through the dishwashers.

If you cannot get all of the rust off, phosphoric acid based rust converter, painted on, will kill the rust. The sun will thoroughly dry the part at the moment.

Difficult for a long lasting repair I'm afraid.....the tray is plastic coated and the rust will be quite well installed.
Consider having the thing blasted and recoated once more - the plastic coating firm can do both. It may not be as expensive as you think but its unfortunate to have happened in the first place.
John :)

Getting rid of rust, I have a few suggestions above. Thanks.

Problem: adding a 'coating' that will withstand many many many washes?
So still not 100% sure what coating to apply?

Going to recycling sounds a good idea.

Put through dishwasher?
Yes of course.
The problem has been there for some time now.
While trying to fix another problem... I got to look at rust. I didn't realise it was that bad. The family has been consuming the rust after every wash of dishes. ☹️

John...
Just saw your reply.
Can you give me a name of a plastic coating firm?
