I have three defunct light switches to remove from downstairs, is this a job for the pros or can this be DIY'ed? (with your expert guidance of course)

Pic 1 and 2 are of the same switch and outlet combo in the kitchen, pic 3 is of a different switch outlet combo in the living room of which there is another of identical configuration, not pictured here.

Switch off the power to the SOCKETS and make sure they are dead.

In each case -
Remove all the wires from the socket that go to the switch and re-terminate the remaining wires where they were in the socket.
Pull the loose wires/cable into the switch.

The bare CPCs (Circuit Protective Conductors - earth wires) should be sleeved with Green and Yellow.

100m. cheaper at Toolstation than a 5m. at B&Q. Such is life. Offer B&Q 22p (4.36/20)

Rescrew the socket to the wall.

Do what you want with the light switch and light wiring.

It would be more expensive as you've linked to 1.5mm² singles!

http://www.diy.com/departments/corelectric-heat-shrink-sleeving-l10m/198040_BQ.prd is for some '3mm heatshrink sleeving' and only £2 for 10m

Oh did I? Sorry.

Tis a crap site for searching - and that's listed as heat shrink.

Go to Toolstation.

Even my next door neighbour's cat possessed the relevant skills needed to complete this task before it died due to an electric shock.

You can do it, just remember to safely isolate at the consumer unit (cat couldn't reach it).

Yea totally go to toolstation/screwfix.

I know it's listed as 'heat shrink' but whether it actually is or not who knows? If it is, it's pretty cheap and if it wasn't only 3mm, I might go get some!

I got one of those 3 sleevings on a drum from the wholesalers last week, more annoying than useful unfortunately

That 3rd picture is an appalling piece of work - a spur for a light off a spur with no earth sleeving. With bare sleeveless cpc outside the accessory too

I'd approach the work with caution, is your fuse board/ consumer unit labelled? Have you got a means of testing that the circuit is off properly before working on it?? Volt stick? meter? Martindale
