Hello I know this is a DIY forum and my husband and i have done a lot of things ourselves and had a lot of good advise from this group to assist however my husband is not too unsteady to go up ladders -last time he tried he ended up in the fishpond and i dont have the strength or skills to redo a flat fibreglass roof. I tried all the usual ways to find a roofer including online Mybuilder type websites and googled local companies which drew a blank. I had one too far away to trust, one turned us down, one didnt reply, one came to quote and never sent us the quote, another turned out to be a dubious traveller type who didnt have a home phone or address and one very nice Romanian guy who even sent a quote but didnt seem to understand how to fit a fully fibreglass roof. I rang my home insurance company and they cant connect us with a local contractor either even though the roof is likely to cause ingress into the property quite soon when it rains hard. Has anyone in my area of East Devon got any suggestions and why am i finding it so hard to engage a roofer?? We have our own fairly standard 60s style semi bungalow in generally good condition - it isnt dilapidated or in an isolated place-it is a small town.

My suggestion would be to find out where you nearest roofing supplies company is, go in and ask the counter staff if they know any grp specialists locally.

Failing that call into your local builders merchant and ask the same.

If you mention on here which town you are from, you might by chance get a recommend off the site.

Thank you I have found a local roofing supplies company and emailed them - I never thought of a supplies company. I live in Exeter.

You may not get a reply, if you dont can you pop in and have a chat?

If you get no joy, google fibreglass roofing suppliers and ask them if they supply anybody in exeter.

The old fashioned networking is your best bet.

Also you could join nextdoor and ask the question. There is bound to be an exeter one -nextdoor is like a local community, you just join your local one that may cover 3 or 4 miles.

Prodeck are always advertising on the local radio (I'm in Torbay so only 20 mins from Exeter). Their website suggests that they cover the Exeter area too. https://www.prodek.co.uk/

For the record, I am in no way linked to this company whatsoever, nor have I ever employed their services so do not treat this as an advertisement or recommendation, just a suggestion!

Check out the ads in the exeter leaf. It used to come once a month through the door and also has a (weird) website.

Hello thanks for all the replies. I took one persons advice and contacted local roofing supplies and they repsonded immediately with a roofer who was happy to do our porch roof for less than £600. All seems well except for one thing for which i have started a new thread today.
