any help greatfully recieved ... what i need to do is attach a heat lamp to the lid of the vivarium which is wood, i'm quite confident with fixing the light fitting and wiring it. but what im not sure about is how to obtain a power supply or should i say where from ..meaning an adjacent powerpoint or from the ceiling rose...and if the powerpoint do i need to use a transformer????

depends on the lamp as to if it requires a transformer.

why not suspend it on a flex, and put a wire mesh over the tank?

snake cant get out, cant get burnt on lamp, but is kept warm

cheers breezers, great idea in theory but the viv is for a cornsnake who are fantastic escapologists and i also need to keep the cats claws out.

according to the reptile shop they'll only burn themselves once if at all.
they reckon a basic celing fitting with a heat bulb will do the job. will a standard plug and cable be okay?

great site chivers thanks for that, definitely some food for thought there.

I would use a ceramic lamp holder (because of the heat) and yes you can plug it in, provided you put a 3A fuse in the plug
