I lifted some lino in my new house to reveal lovely old quarry tiles in my kitchen. They are pretty old and dirty mainly due to some sort of glue on them. Its not just the lino adhesive its clearly much older than than and may be from vinyl tiles or something?

I have tried nitromors which did partially lift it but it more just melted it to leave a new white residue which is nearly as hard to get off but eventually came off with just scraping and white spirits. It took two hours to do a square foot.

I definately want to keep and restore them to some degree so any ideas?
