The ones at the bottom are very prone to damp and rot, so after cutting to size, and drilling the screwholes, treat your new ones very thoroughly with wood preserver (not stain) before fixing. It can be useful to prepare a few extra boards as spares for next time.
Use brass or stainless screws
Only put one screw through the board at each stud. If you use two, it will split the board between the screws as it cannot expand and shrink as the weather changes.
If there are no gutters, or they leak, rainsplash will accelerate damp and rot.
