How do I test a washing machine without 'installing' it?

I have a front loading machine I want to dispose of but I want to make sure it's working before forking out £50 for a courier! It hasn't been used for a year.

It's currently in the garage. I can wheel it out onto the the drive and I have a garden hose. CAN I see if it work by connecting it to the garden hose and plugging it in? Or do I have to move the existing machine out of the utility and plumb this one in properly?

Any ideas please?

It should work in the way you suggest.

Don't leave the outlet hose just laying on the ground - the water will drain out of it before it's supposed to. There's usually a clip on the back of the machine to support it.

Use a hefty extension lead capable of carrying a full 13 Amp load - the internal heater will probably draw close on that much with a cold fill.

hose will work fine, just get a garden hose connector like this

to convert the washer pipe to hose connector
