can anyone advise if it is necessary to hook the water outlet drainage hose from a washing machine to a pipe and j bend (trap) or can i just have the hose running directly into the outflow pipe.
i`m having intermittant overflow problems with my miele washing machine and i`ve done all the usual unblocking techiniques to the machine and j trap etc and identified that the problem comes from where the overflow hose hooks over the outflow pipe. its only a cup full of water that leaks out but over time its making a real mess.
its driving me mad!!!

I think people will need a bit more detail before advising on this.
Does the machine have a dedicated waste pipe to a drain (or a soil stack) or is it tee'd into another waste pipe (eg sink)?
Is there a long horizontal run of pipe anywhere in the system?
Is the pipework 1.5 inches diameter (40mm external diameter in modern sizing)?
All additional info gratefully received. Photos would be useful.
