Just about to leave a house empty for a few weeks. The property has main dwelling house with the boiler inside but there is an "annex" bedroom with one rad. frost-stat in the entrance to said annex.

I know that the froststat setting is wrong because the cover fell off it and somebody thought it was a roomstat for a while.

Also, the plastic adjusting knob for the stat has been broken, so it will push onto the splined shaft in any orientation - so I can't trust the numbers printed on it (presumably these are just a guide, and the unit was never calibrated)

The frost stat operates the system when the I rotate the knob back & forth, as it passes the current ambient of about 8C.

Is there a trick to setting it? obviously I dont want it set too high & burn loads of fuel, neither do I want it set too low and risk pipe damage.
ttnx fer help

VERY unlikely you will get any damage anyway, set it about 10 deg (rotation not temperature) up from minimum.

get a new one? youll get change from a tenner......

or just a pipestat, saw one on a new build, and i thought...thats crafty. no froststat just pipestat. in fact, im thinking that could be the future.

Not sure about this frost stat business. A frost stat will respond early to a temperature drop, then it's normal to have a pipe stat to switch things off when the pipes warm up to 20 or so.

pipestat just monitors boiler return temp. will switch on when say set to 10C . (make on drop) does same job. and puts all frostat manufacture out of business.
who needs 'em?? :D :D :D
