How does this soundproofing quote sound?

Ah fantastic news that the sound wall worked! - there's nothing worse than noise from next door... it grates on you and slowly winds you up! :D

We had the same, you could hear them talking, coughing, TV etc.

Yeah the underlay/db-plasterboard could help in your loft, sounds like you might need to get the pointing trowel out as well thou..

Use the Tapered edge board and you can dry-line it the same as the Pro's did, just sand it and paint it. ;)

Just for future reference; different density materials attenuate sound at different frequencies. Broadly speaking; high density materials tend to block low frequencies and low density materials tend to block high frequencies. That's why the (high density) metal pipes in Papillon blocked the low frequency sounds but allowed the high frequency tapping sound through. So good sound systems are made up of a mix of low and high density meterials. Typically this means a layer of mineral wool and a double layer of dense plasterboard. Air gaps and separation are also good but different size gaps have different effect on different frequencies. The idea is to match the gap with the waveform. This causes maximum disruption and increases decay of the wave.
