How far should plasterboard be underflush to old wall

Tape the joints, bring flush to existing with bonding plaster, pva the old plaster then skim the lot.

Thats how i would do it.

Thanks Alastair. I wasn't planning on skimming the whole wall as we are papering but I will consider it!

It would be easier to pack out the plasterboard
to the level of the old plaster.
Tape the joint ,then feather the skimming about
a foot into the old plaster .

I could take it off and fit in a 6mm sheet of ply/mdf then refit the plasterboard. Guess it would make the skimming easier

It should be that the cornerbead above the door lines up flush with old wall so so what ever option you take make sure you have a bead handy to see how it sits at the moment its way off

Okay cheers. I am getting some corner bead tomorrow as I need quite a bit for the hallway. I will pack it out when I have it
