how long does a pat tester calibration last

i am currently looking into buying a pat tester and i am trying to take all factors into consideration,but i cannot find out how long a calibration would last between intervals does anyone know?
Also can anyone recommend somewhere where i can get a good mid range pat tester withselectable earth continuity test currents?

The frequency of testing is determined by the tester based on the condition, environment and use of the equipment.

The HSE and other bodys have published recommended intervals but at the end of the day, it is up to you based on your knowledge, experience and qualifications.

He certainly is, but some people on this forum are so desperate to post their reply, they don't bother reading or understanding the OP, and hence, you get rather pointless posts as evidenced by posts 2 & 3 above.

To the OP:

The calibration certificates for our PAT tetsers at work (issued by RS Calibration) don't specify a recalibration date or interval.
However, the IEE Code of Practice states (chapter 10.6, page 48.):

The accuracy of a test instrument should be verified and recorded annually or in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
...
In addition, it is recommended that the instrument is checked at regular intervals.

Get it calibrated once and then do regular test using something like this:

We did get one tester calibrated only to find in spite of having a traceable calibration the tester was of an old design and could not be set to new standards after returning it for re-calibration after the calibration house could not trace the "traceable" records.

After that it was plain it was a just take the money and run thing and it was not really calibrated. So we made up our own test box.

However in real terms we re-test the same items every 3 months to 4 years and we are supposed to look at trends so we can see when an item is degrading so any drift of the machines calibration would soon become evident as all tested items would have the same trend. So with a correctly use machine one should not really need to have it calibrated as such as it should be quickly evident if it goes wrong.

Only where the tester does not compare results would any drift be missed and if the tester is not comparing results and cutting corners then likely he would not be worried if tester is out anyway!

Some people are a lot more clever. I dont thing the speed or replying to a post is relevant, if it were there would be a lot more people that respond to the drivel that gets post.
