I see it regularly.
Most often on garage and shower circuits that have been added later.
The latest was actually a 32A ring final (well, the RCD was 32A!) for 2 sockets in a porch. They were fed just like that, an enclosure fed via tails with an RCD inside, with 2 x 2.5 coming off the bottom of the RCD.
