How many people you went to school with have died due to drink or drugs.

I was thinking of my school days today and was shocked at the number who had died before their mid 20's do to misuse of drugs. I had long since forgotten most of them but the memories of them came flooding back.

I only know of one that became an alcoholic who died quite young. There maybe others that I am not aware.

Three in my class died due to overdose.
Two brothers we went to school with whose dad had been in the Mets drug squad were murdered because of their involvement in dealing. Another was also murdered for the same thing.

Speaking to my youngest brother today he said their were many more but I don't remember them.

Quite a number, now that I'm edging towards 60. Expose a hundred people to drink and drugs and at least five of those (possibly more) will succumb to addiction.
I have seen the whole fall from grace. Married with mortgage and sprogs. Divorced. Job gone. Booted out by girlfriend (drinking buddy). Debts owing to mates that have helped out. Booze cabinet emptied in the process of couch surfing. Bedsit abandoned owing to debt. Doss house no longer an option due to abuse. No money, no where to live - suicide or death by consumption.

There were probably no more than 30 in my class.

One of my friends used to work for me when I lived in London. He was a great bloke and very funny. He ended up working in a secure unit for youngster. When it was closed his life turned to **** and he chose to take an overdose. Hundreds of people went to his funeral.

It is a tragic waste of life and it is a horrible thing to be addicted to drugs, I have lost 3 very close friends due to drugs and it is so sad.

I long since lost contact with most of them, but a few years ago, remade contact via a FB school group. Many missing from the group, but I found one whom, whilst at school, I would have voted to be the most likely to succeed in life - I heard his life had gone very sour, and he had topped himself. A young lad I had working with me, only survived into his late 50's - I found, when I recently searched FB, to see how he'd done in life. I also found a girl I had known at school, who had back then lived not far from where I lived, now lives close to where I now live, but some 20 miles from where I began.

My school in London must have been at least as bad if not worse than I remember it.

Another of the kids in my my class took his own life. As did his younger brother and their dad. I think I posted about that on here years ago.
