How much for this work?

I already know that there will be no need for new cables to the boiler as my electrician has assured me if the timer is fitted in the airing cupboard then the length of new wire would be very short and easy to fit  .
Just out of interest if i have the parts that are needed what additional parts will be needed to complete the job as you said there would be £60-£80 of bits.

Thanks

I doubt that your electrician will know which boilers need pump over run.

The correct way to wire a system like yours is a live and neutral from the cylinder to the boiler, then a call for heat and a pump overun. So a four core and earth cable are needed!

I said £60-£80 in the gernerality to cover a programmer, three port or two port valve and cylinder stat.

Total probably £250 - £400. Impossible to be accurate.

Great picture, says it all really, how long do you think it will take for that bit of insulation to start saveing you more than it cost, STOP SPENDING TO SAVE MONEY!!!! its cheeper in the long run. LIVE WITH IT!!! If it works leave it alone!

LOL the insulaion was there when we bought the house so iam sorry if you find it offensive.
As ive already got the parts that are need ive managed to find a qualified plumber with over 20 years of experience and is recommended by a friend, no hidden charges just £17.50 per hour and he thinks it will take him about 2-3 hours to change the valve over and get it back working as it is but he cant do the wiring.
Ive spoke to my sparky and hes had a look at the wiring and is sure he can do it all i will need is an extra length of wiring installed.
so i think its going to work out at about £160/£180 to have it all fitted which is half of what ive been quoted.
Just a quite note buck51 and that is considering the price increases in gas i think that having the heating running with out the cost of heating the water for the same period is money well spent.
Thanks for all the helpfull comments that were posted

20 years of experience and he still cannot wire up a heating system?

Sounds as if he is a ( basic ) wet plumber.

Tony

To be honest bud i dont know why he said he didnt want to do it, could be that hes to busy or it could be that as you say hes just a wet plumber but in short i could not care less infact why should iam saving myself alot of money.
Would you criticize your supermarket because it prefers to sell more beer than bread when your favorite beer is half the price of all the other supermarkets :?
Just out of interest i thought only sparkys can install new wiring because of regs?

Wrong. Anyone with the correct qualification (part P) can fit new circuits.....but not do whole house or change the consumer board......and some work can be DIY'ed as long as your competant (been here before...) and it isn't notifiable work.

Just a thought. Why not keep the existing 2-port valve for CH and put in an additional 2-port valve for the HW?

I think its going to work out easier and cheaper to just switch the 2 port for a 3 port, i expect there will be less wiring with a 3 port but the cost of an extra 2 port compared with just one 3 port is so small i would rather just have the 1.

Its cheaper to buy a two port and they are often thought to be easier to wire up and fault find.

Certainly in a fault condition better manual control can be obtained with two two port.
