I'm currently estimating number of bricks & blocks for my extensions. :(

How much sand / concrete do I need? Is there a rough formula?

Extension1 approx 4600 bricks / 770 blocks.

Extension2 approx 4100 bricks / 685 blocks.

Ta in advance.

Dave.

Hi, Davy,
The standard 'formula' used in the trade is that a ton of sand lays a thousand bricks and the blocks to back it/them up.
So as you are laying 8,700 bricks/blocks in total, I would suggest you buy a 10 ton load of soft sand, it will be the cheapest way, and any excess can be bagged or disposed of/ mixed in with the garden earth etc.
ten ton of soft used to be £150, but my prices are 10 years out of date, since I gave up being a trowel warrior.
As far as cement is concerned, as it has a limited shelf life, I would buy it as you need it.

Ok, Nose,
your allowed to make an error now and again, as long as it's not to lay 'em nick over crack, or forget to put the dust in the mix. (I swear I had a labourer who did that once)

P. S.
the great bricklayer on the wall is infallible, and he's the only one.

Not so mutch a religion, more a bunch of cults.
