How much should we be budgeting for supply and fit of a new combi boiler, Worcester or Vaillant, plus associated powerflush etc?

Ask your friends whom they would recommend, from personal experience, to do the job. Then phone three installers and ask for their ball-park price. Choose the one you seem most comfortable with and get him to give you a quotation not an estimate. He will have to visit you to check what needs to be done.

It might be worth checking the Trustmark website and your local Trading Standards Dept for the name of vetted installers.

We charge £840 plus cost of boiler. There can be extra for upgrading the gas supply pipe if more than 3 m is needed and for fitting TRVs and any room stats.

Costs vary round the country and unfortunately you have not said where you are located!

We're in Preston Lancashire. Been quoted 2 prices over £4k! Reckon somewhere around the £2k mark more realistic

Depends on what is coming out and the amount of work involved.

For a BBU and HW cylinder out and Vaillant 831 in I would say around £2400 + VAT VERY approximately.
