Hi.

I need to put a sidegate down the side of our house, for security reasons.

The gap is 3400mm wide and the post will need to be 2000mm to match the height of my neighbour's fence.

I was thinking of putting four posts in, with a gate between the middle two.

The drive is solid concrete.

What material should I use for the fence posts?

I was thinking of using galvanised box section, rather than wooden posts. If I go down this route, what diameter and thickness should I go for?

Any pointeres would be much appreciated.

I think I'd be looking at 4" square galvanised posts which would have a wall thickness of around 4mm. Paint any cut edges and cap the tops.
Are you sure you need four posts? Maybe one at each side and one in the middle for two gates (which could restrict access) or just two, with the gates chained in the middle?
Just a thought!
John :)

Be aware of drains or services where you intend the posts to go.
A picture of the proposed gateway should help folk make suggestions ?
