Can anyone tell me the best way to cleanup an old brick fireplace?
It is in an old cottage and has been there for some time and now the bricks have become clogged with dust etc
Any advice please
Many thanks

You could try a good old fashhioned scrubbing with cleaning agents or even a wire brush but the most effective way of bringing it back to original is to have it blast cleaned. There are companies who specialise in this & it’s very quick but best done as part of a major refurbishment as it produces lots of dust even with precautions to minimise it.

Assuming you don't have lots of other work to do blasting is a bit OTT and as richard said seriously messy. You can hire a needle gun to do it or if you don't mind spending some time at it a flap wheel and wire brush attachement for a drill does a great job.

bucket of water, wet the bricks and rub them over with a half brick, and a good brushing down afterwards
