We have a new Delta close-coupled toilet (Bathstore.com) which has a plastic male-threaded fitting on the bottom of the inlet valve. What is the correct way to connect this to the copper 15mm cold water supply? The installation instructions appear to have been translated from the original Chinese (probably by Super Mario! :) ) and offer no clues.

The thread appears to accept the nut of a 15mm compression fitting (without the olive) but this wouldn't give a watertight seal. Are you supposed to use a tap connector? All the ones on the Screwfix site seem to be metric one end and imperial the other.

Is it OK to use a metal nut on plastic or should I be looking for a plastic fitting?

you need a tap connector of some sort, with a 1/2" thread. The easiest to use is the "flexi" type, rubber tube with stainless steel braiding over. These have connections to copper (15mm) at other end - either compression or push fit. Have another look at online products and you'll see.

the seal is made by a little red (or green on flexi pipe) fibre washer, which goes inside the metal nut.
