How to create zones on my central heating setup?

At the moment I have no zones on my heating at home. I have a Nest thermostat downstairs that controls the heating (UFH downstairs and radiators upstairs) all at once which is less than ideal.

I ideally want the UFH to be able to be controlled independently of the upstairs radiators (and vice versa).

What would be the easiest way to achieve this as i've spoken to a couple plumbers and they've offered different solutions and have tried selling me on whole new systems (Honeywell for example).

I know i'll likely need some new pipework and valves adding to my system, and i'm not averse to getting a new thermostat/system but just wondering if anyone has had this kind of work done previously and what was actually needed?

Am I right in thinking I'd just need to zone valves fitting? One to the feed for the UFH and one to the feed for the upstairs radiators? Then as I have a Nest downstairs I could buy another Nest to go upstairs and use that to control the newly created upstairs zone?

Anyone any ideas?

Yes, that would work, but would take work and plumbers time is money.
Alternatively, for less work, but possibly more parts cost, you could combine a new stat with smart TRVs. There would be no need for plumbing adjustment, as each rad becomes it's own zone, the room stat could look after the UFH.
Unfortunately, the 3rd gen Nest doesn't support smart TRV's, but it seems as if the new 4th gen may.
How many rads do you have upstairs?
